Cacao has its origins in South America, near Colombia and Ecuador, yet Colombia remains a relatively small producer on the global stage. In recent years, there has been a growing movement to encourage Colombian farmers—especially those from regions deeply affected by violence associated with narcotrafficking and guerilla conflict—to embrace cacao as a path to renewal. Many farmers have either been displaced from their land or compelled to grow alternative crops. Now, with Colombia’s rich soils and ideal climate for cacao, we are helping build the infrastructure and partnerships necessary for the country to become a leading source of high-quality cacao.
